VA Department of Health

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is one of 12 state agencies under the Secretary of Health and Human Resources, and is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians.

VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. These entities work together to promote healthy lifestyle choices that can combat chronic disease, to educate the public about emergency preparedness and threats to their health, and to track disease outbreaks in Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Health has several programs that address risk and protective factors associated with substance abuse and violence. The following three units participate in the GOSAP Collaborative:

Program Contact
The Division of Injury & Violence Prevention (DIVP) is a division of the Virginia Department of Health that focuses on the prevention of unintentional, intentional and self-inflicted injuries. The division coordinates activities to prevent bullying, suicide, domestic and sexual violence and unintentional injuries in the Commonwealth.
